Canalys reported that Huawei has hit a record-breaking HarmonyOS smartphone sales as of 2024. The company has seemingly shipped more than 100 million handsets in the past four years and achieved a major milestone in this sphere.

According to Canalys, Huawei has secured 103 million HarmonyOS smartphone sales as of 2024. Out of this figure, the company sold nearly 46 million handsets last year.

The report highlights that the tech giant shipped 21 million HarmonyOS-powered tablets in the past few years. 10.5 million of these tablets were sold solely in 2024.

Huawei introduced HarmonyOS in 2019 after the US sanction. It expanded the home-grown software to its devices like phones, tablets, and wearables in June 2021.

Over time, the company not only improved its software version with better features but also added elements that can boost its devices’ performance. At the same time, it expanded the software scope from phones and tablets to earbuds and even PCs.

Today, Huawei has seeded its self-developed HarmonyOS software to every other product, such as phones, tablets, earbuds, wearables, smart cars, PCs, home appliances, and more. It even introduced a dedicated native app ecosystem.

Coming back, the new Canalys report shows that Huawei has also shipped around 4.2 million PCs in China, out of which 3.2 million are notebooks. The analysis hints that HarmonyOS is gradually gaining ground over foreign rivals in China.

As of now, Huawei is planning to ramp up its HarmonyOS PC shipments in the market. The company has launched its first Windows-free MateBooks in the market with new form factors and impressive software capabilities.

The report says that HarmonyOS can achieve long-term success due to the following factors:

  • Embracing the AI revolution
  • Promoting distributed architecture
  • AI capabilities

These three aspects are helping the company to establish a leading multi-device collaboration. Huawei is further considering to unveil new software versions for its devices this year. One of these major upgrades can be the HarmonyOS 6.0.
