Previous leaks about the HarmonyOS PC software revealed that the design will be slightly different for PC and Notebook devices. That includes a status bar on the top side with various information similar to a smartphone. It’s like a control center with various quick settings.
It will have an application dock with system and third-party applications. The software will also have dedicated widgets optimized for large and small screens.
Yu Chengdong has not elaborated on a specific PC or notebook model that will launch with HarmonyOS.
It is promoted with HarmonyOS NEXT, which means it will have native app support, and it won’t be running any of the previous gen mobile applications. That also suggests that the app could be multi-platform supported but its developer guidelines are likely to be different for PCs.
Partnership with Microsoft
Huawei’s MateBook branded notebook uses Microsoft’s Windows. It is one of the few companies that still get a special pass to continue business with the Chinese tech maker after the US ban.
As mentioned above, the HarmonyOS PC is being promoted with HarmonyOS NEXT, native app ecosystem could halt such devices from entering in the global market.
It’s also possible that the PC would remain limited to Chinese consumers, and Huawei may continue selling Windows PC for global consumers. However, we’ll get more answers when the Huawei actually launches HarmonyOS PC in May.
