Huawei dominated 2024 Chinese foldable market, thanks to Mate X5
Huawei once again won the crown of the Chinese foldable market for 2024, and a big credit goes to Mate X5. The device remained the apple of the eye for Chinese consumers due to its super-dynamic design, smart AI tools, and tech capabilities.
According to Counterpoint, the Chinese foldable sales market jumped to 27% YoY last year. Even though the sector grew rapidly, it is marching forward at a slower pace.
The report further highlights the top five best-selling folding handsets in China for 2024. Only three brands made their way to the list: Huawei, Vivo, and Honor.
Mate X5 ranked first in the top five best-selling foldable list, helping Huawei to further solidify its foothold in the 2024 Chinese market. The device has been a game changer for the company in the consumer market and accounts for 28.1% of the total sales.
Yes, Mate X5’s cutting-edge features, a Kirin 5G processor, and hardware innovation made it gain a lot of popularity in the market. After the Mate X5, Pocket 2 achieved great sales in the 2024 Chinese foldable market for its compact design.

Pocket 2 clamshell product grabbed the second spot with 10.7% sales. Its 5G chipset, quad-camera system, and satellite features made it the star for female customers.
Latest launches like Nova Flip and Mate X6 – the most powerful Mate foldable in history are also contributing to the company’s sales revenue. Counterpoint says:
“Huawei’s Mate X5 and X6 led the book-type foldable while the Pocket 2 and Nova Flip were the top performers in the clamshell-type foldable category.”
Honor closely followed Huawei with a double-digit market share – thanks to Magic Vs2 and Vs3 series. The listing shows Magic Vs2 with 4.4% sales share while Magic V Flip with 3.7% sales share. Vivo X Fold 3 is in third place with 5.3% sales.
Other Chinese brands and Samsung remained in the single-digit market shares in the listing. Counterpoint expects to see more innovative folding phones in 2025 with better “integration of software and hardware”.
