Huawei consumer business revenue growth

Huawei has seen the fastest annual revenue growth in a decade – thanks to the ultimate rise in the company’s consumer business. The tech giant collected a sales revenue of 860 billion yuan last year with an increase of 22% year-on-year.

Huawei’s consumer business counts sales of smartphones, tablets, and other devices. It includes all consumer products and services that benefit users.

Before 2019, the OEM was doing great in the consumer business worldwide. It was having access to advanced technologies and increasing profits year by year. Though the situation turned around when the US sanctions slammed the firm in 2019.

US officials believed that Huawei was using its product to spy on the country’s confidential data. The company denied all the allegations, yet foreign government imposed a ban on it. This move marked the beginning of challenges for Huawei.

Kirin chip production was halted due to a shortage of advanced chipmaking equipment. Huawei had to rely on other chipmakers such as Qualcomm. However, these chipmakers were also banned from supplying 5G chips to China.

Due to these challenges, the company’s revenue in 2021 fell by 29%. It tried to come back in the game but didn’t do well following the absence of high-end techs.

After years of hard work, Huawei turned the cards in its favor in 2023 with the Kirin 5G-powered Mate 60 series. It wasn’t a powerful processor but helped the company regain its value in the consumer market. It also brought back the OEM to the smartphone track.

In 2024, the company introduced many products that drive the growth of its consumer business. Pura 70 flagship, Pocket 2, Nova Flip foldable, Mate XT, Nova 13 series, Mate X6, and Mate 70 lineup uplifted the value of Huawei in the smartphone market.

The company also earned gains in other categories like tablets, PCs, Smart TVs, and more. After years of struggle, the eventual rise of Huawei Consumer Business in 2024 led to the company’s fastest revenue growth since 2016.

Huawei Chairman – Liang Hua reported that the firm’s consumer business has returned to growth. Meanwhile, other sectors like the smart automotive solution business are also doing great in the Chinese market.
