Huawei could further renovate its Kirin chip capabilities, like performance and power efficiency, for the Mate 80 flagship. The lineup has time to go official in the market. And before that, we got some insights about the Mate 80 phones’ chipsets.

Weibo tipster @SmartPikachu says that Huawei will upgrade its Kirin 5G chip for the Mate 80 series in terms of captivating performance and power efficiency.

The tipster adds that the firm will use a new chip packaging tech to improve performance by reducing the gap between SoC components. It may lessen the chipset area in the device, offering faster processing than previous Kirin processors.

5nm Kirin chip is coming?

Chip area reduction raised speculation for a 5nm process. The company was expected to feature a 5nm chip with Mate 70 models. But it didn’t happen due to tougher restrictions, lack of advanced chipmaking tools, and lower chip production.

Further inputs reveal that Huawei may use an auxiliary processor this time for the Mate 80 phones. While the details aren’t clear about this addition, it could be a self-developed supplementary part to boost the overall performance to a greater extent.

Simply put, the new Kirin chip and its components will eventually improve data transfer speed, performance, and power efficiency as well as lower manufacturing costs.
