Huawei AppGallery will stop supporting 32-bit apps in 2022

Huawei’s own app store AppGallery is planning to remove 32-bit apps and stop supporting them. According to information, Huawei Developer Alliance stated this phase-out info through email. The email content reveals that AppGallery will fully promote the upgrade of Android applications to 64-bit versions in order to provide a better app performance experience.

In addition 32bit apps on AppGallery, it reduce the impact of the Android application’s power consumption on devices. However, these changes will definitely deliver a smoother app experience to the consumers.

Here’s the timeline for the changes in AppGallery:

  • From February 1, 2022, newly launched/upgraded games and applications on the Huawei AppGallery must contain the 64-bit version.
  • Starting from September 1, 2022, Huawei AppGallery will no longer accept apps containing 32-bit versions.

To help the Chinese app makers and seamlessly connect to the global 64-bit development environment the major companies jointly announced to build all apps that support the 64-bit Arm architecture in an orderly manner.

The Chinese firms include Huawei AppGallery, Xiaomi App Store, OPPO App Store, Vivo App Store, Tencent App Store, and Baidu Mobile Assistant working as planned. They will be ready for the release of 64-bit architecture by the end of August 2022.

On the other hand, the iOS platform completely abandoned 32-bit apps and has only allowed 64-bit applications since 2017.
