Recently, Huawei and Viu announced a partnership for Huawei Mobile Services (HMS) and Huawei Ads to provide better content in the MEA region including a broad smartphones ecosystem.

Viu is a leading premier over-the-top (OTT) video streaming provider. It operates in 16 markets with both an ad-supported and a paid membership tier. It delivers premium content on-demand and through live streaming, in exceptional HD quality.

Under the “Viu Original” initiative, the platform has already produced more than 42 Saudi, Emirati, and Pan-Arab star-studded shows with popularity among viewers.

Rohit D’silva, Chief Business Officer, Middle East and South Africa at Viu gave an interview and his impressions on the partnership with Huawei.

What’s the aim?

Rohit said that Huawei and Viu are on the same page. Viu wants to launch its app on AppGallery, which will connect Huawei users with Viu services. This will lead the company to reach more audiences.

Advertisement is another important aspect of this partnership. Viu chief said that Petal Ads has the potential to help its business to further expand across the region.

Partnership:

Mr. Rohit revealed that Huawei and Viu teams are working together since 2019. He also shared details that the Viu app is prepared at a fast speed by using HMS Core open capabilities.

Furthermore, Huawei prioritizes app monetization like IAP, a crucial feature for multiple payment methods, as well as the video business DRM (Digital Rights Management).

It is a method of preventing unauthorized use and piracy of digital content, and it has become a requirement for many streaming video platforms supported by the Huawei ecosystem as more premium content is delivered via the public Internet.

Future scope:

Viu’s intentions are clearly to grab the reach of Huawei devices and to do so, it has prepared a bundle offer for Huawei smartphones.

This will enable users to enjoy up to 6 months of free Viu premium subscription. Specifically, the package is bundled with new flaghip devices such as Huawei Mate 50 Pro and later launched models.
