Huawei and SAIC reportedly to launch new smart car brand on April 10

Huawei and SAIC Motor Corporation will reportedly launch a new smart car brand on April 10. A Chinese media – Cailianshe has recently noted that both companies are working on a major automobile brand that will likely debut next month.
Two people familiar with the matter said Huawei and SAIC will announce a car brand named “Shangjie” on April 10. The latter already signed a cooperation agreement with the former company in February, probably on this subject.
If true, Shangjie will become the major smart car brand in the HIMA family. Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance (HIMA) already has four big brands including AITO, Luxeed, STELATO, and the newly launched MAEXTRO.
Another SAIC insider said the first Shangjie smart car will be a revamped version of the existing SAIC models. Huawei will contribute to this model as a smart car solution supplier, offering cost-effective driving solutions like ADS and smart cabins.
Meanwhile, the first Shangjie car may use the power setup of the SAIC EREV (Extended-Range Electric Vehicle) line. Further details say the car will mainly focus on the youth market and could cost around 250,000 yuan, starting at 170,000 yuan.
SAIC and Huawei have joined hands to develop luxurious cars under the Shangjie brand. It would be worth seeing what major changes and solutions it will bring over other brands in the Chinese automobile market.
The Chinese media didn’t share many details on the new brand. However, it has been reported to expect official inputs at the launch site.
