Huawei and MTN signed cooperation to boost digital transformation in Africa

Huawei and the MTN Group signed an agreement during the MWC 2024 event to encourage digital transformation in Africa. Both companies aim to work on innovative products based on 5G-Advanced, AI, and digital financial services.

According to the details, the latest cooperation will further help reshape the future of Africa in terms of technology and economic development. It will ultimately open new opportunities for operators and consumers, bringing a reliable experience.

The signed agreement states that MTN Group will develop an innovative technology lab in South Africa. Eventually, this establishment will stand as a neutral platform and promote the creation and placement of digital solutions in the region.

Huawei and MTN together will work on 5G-A technology, AI, big data analysis, cloud computing, digital financial services, and digital transformation in Africa.

Here, the network operator will contribute to the research and development process, network coverage improvement in rural areas, energy efficiency, digital transformation, and sustainable development in Africa.

Furthermore, the Chief Tech and Information Officer of MTN group – Mazen Mroue said that this is a true investment in the African digital ecosystem. It will help in forming the structure of an advanced, sustainable, and prosperous region.

Meanwhile, the Senior Vice President of Huawei – Li Peng quoted:

“Through joint innovation between the two parties, Huawei will create products and solutions that are more in line with African characteristics for MTN, and help MTN improve its network quality, user experience, and rapid deployment.”
