Huawei allegedly testing eSIM capability for 2nd tri-fold smartphone

eSIM has once again become a popular topic in China, and Huawei could be a major brand to hype this capability with its 2nd tri-fold smartphone. A new leak says the company is testing the embedded SIM for its next-gen triple-folding handset.
Sina Technology recently revealed that the top Chinese manufacturers are up with the eSIM testing. Due to government regulations and US security concerns, eSIM adoption became limited in China for a couple of years.
Apart from regulations, operators’ interest and service maintenance were the reasons for eSIM suspension. But DigitalChatStation now reveals that the eSIM business will once again gain momentum in the Chinese market.
While Huawei used to offer eSIM support to its devices, the capability was missing in the first-generation triple foldable handset. Although the 2nd Huawei Mate XT tri-fold smartphone is expected to get the eSIM tech in Q3 2025.
The tipster says that besides the Apple iPhone 17 Air, Huawei is allegedly testing the eSIM (embedded SIM) technology for the 2nd tri-fold handset.

Unlike the traditional SIM that needs an extra SIM tray, the eSIM can be inserted directly into the device chip, eliminating the need for a physical SIM card. eSIM can save a lot of internal space, playing a significant role in foldable smartphones and ultra-thin handsets.
Huawei’s 2nd triple foldable will likely bring major upgrades this time. As per early inputs, the device can use new camera sensors and enhanced photography features. At the same time, it may integrate a new Kirin 9 series processor.
Display is another important segment that might see significant changes this time. The company might use UFG screen technology to boost the durability segment. How many of these rumors will turn out to be true is worth looking at.
