Honor Magic V5 launched as world’s slimmest AI foldable, challenging OPPO, Samsung

On July 2, Honor launched the toughest rival for foldable smartphones in the market – Magic V5. The device has arrived as a new definition of glamor with the world’s thinnest and lightest design of just 8.8mm, edging out OPPO Find N5 and many others.

Honor Magic V5 launched in four bashful colors: Dawn Gold, Warm White, Silk Road Dunhuang (Red), and Velvet Black. The device measures 156.8mm in length and weighs 217 grams (White variant).

Other dimensions are as follows:

• Folded: 74.3mm width, thickness 8.8mm
• Unfolded: 145.9mm width, 4.1mm thickness
• White color variant: Folded 9.0mm and Expanded 4.2mm.

Though there aren’t many changes in terms of appearance, the Magic V5 has an octa-edge dome-shaped camera module forming a halo at the center. It now has a diamond nail pattern on the camera bump’s edges, with a 3D curved diamond cutting design that can stun you easily.

Magic V5 comes with two displays: a 7.95-inch main screen and a 6.43-inch cover panel. Both these OLEDs support 100%DCI-P3 color gamut, 120Hz refresh rate, 1.07 billion colors, 5000 nits peak brightness, and 4350Hz ultra-high frequency PWM dimming.

The company has used Global low-power LTPO eye protection display technology that offers brighter visuals and reduces the overall power consumption. It has also applied the rhino glass protection to the main screen, while King Kong’s flexible armor to the cover display.

Snapdragon 8 Elite powers up the new foldable phone. The octa-core chipset has two Prime cores clocked at 4.32GHz and six performance cores with 3.53GHz. It is coupled with an Adreno 830 GPU.

The slimmest foldable packs a tri-camera setup, including a 50MP wide-angle camera + 50MP ultrawide-angle shooter + 64MP periscope telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom and 100x digital zoom.

Speaking of the front side, it has a 20MP wide-angle camera on each front face. The device packs a 6100mAh battery for the 16GB + 1TB variant, while a 5820mAh battery for other versions. These batteries support 60W wired and 50W wireless super-fast charging.

Also, the company has used an ultra-thin laminated structure for its higher-density battery, exceeding the silicon content by 25% to boost the overall energy.

Other features include IP58 and IP59 ratings, Honor RF enhanced chip C1+, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, NFC support, Honor Sound, and multiple sensors.
