Honor exec suggests Magic V4 to run on Snapdragon 8 Elite chip

Honor executive has given a clue that the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip will power up the upcoming Magic V4 foldable. The firm’s official suggested the point during an online discussion. The new folding phone may surpass the Find N5 in performance.

The news came into the spotlight when a Weibo tipster questioned the role of the 7-core Snapdragon 8 Elite. OPPO has used the respective chip for its newly launched Find N5. The chip has one less performance core than the octa-core variant.

As per inputs, the 7-core Snapdragon 8 Elite processor is primarily built for thinner devices. It has limited cooling capabilities to maintain performance efficiency.

OPPO Find N5 is currently the thinnest booklet foldable. It is 4.2mm thin when unfolded and 8.9mm thick in the folding state. Thus, it uses the 7-core chipset.

Following this theory, the tipster asked if the upcoming Honor Magic V4 will use a 7-core processor. Li Kun – the General Manager of Honor’s Flagship Smartphone Product line responded on this topic, saying that the company’s folding phones will use the “full-blooded” (complete, no cuts or modification) chipset.

Li Kun said:

“… All new versions of the Honor large folding phones have full-blooded chips, no cuts.”

That suggests, the Honor Magic V4 will run on the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip. We can also expect that the Magic V Flip 2 could use the same processor. But the company hasn’t mentioned any official statement on the vertical fold side.

Honor executive earlier stated that the new folding device will debut in the first half of this year. Li further highlighted the point that the company will remain the winner of the lightest and thinnest foldable smartphones in the world.

Magic V4 could adopt a more innovative form factor to surpass its “thinnest” rival in the consumer market. Other specs and features of the device may soon surface online.
