Honor announces 7 years of Android OS support for flagship phones

Honor is finally bringing 7 years of Android OS support for its flagship Magic phones. The company made this commitment at MWC 2025 (Mobile World Congress) in Barcelona. It will open the blessing of seven major upgrades for top-end devices.
Up to this point, the Magic line was confined to five-year Android updates and five-year security rollouts support. Although the company has taken a major step towards its smartphone software cycle at the MWC 2025 press conference.
The tech giant announced that its flagship phones (Honor Magic line) will get 7 years of Android OS support from now onwards. It has also expanded the security update policy by two years (for a total of 7 years of support) for high-end handsets.
7 years of Android OS and security updates support is part of the HONOR ALPHA PLAN. The new scheme will first come into effect in Europe and then reach more regions. Honor’s President of Products, Fei Fang, said:
“This commitment addresses a core demand of today’s consumers – devices that are not only powerful but also reliable, secure, and durable. Updates allow devices to evolve alongside user needs.”

Honor’s new step adds the company to the same software group as Samsung and Google. The company aims to lessen electronic waste and increase the lifespan of its flagship smartphones. It also routes to rival Samsung in the software trend.
Magic 7 Pro was said to support 5 years of Android OS support and security rollouts. Although the company will now extend two extra years for the top-end model.
Following Google and Samsung, Chinese smartphone makers have started taking big moves in the software rollout plan. It would be worth seeing if more Chinese brands step in this race, as Samsung plans to take on 8 years of Android updates.
HONOR ALPHA PLAN opens up new AI features and capabilities at the MWC 2025 event. The company aims to unlock a new AI world that can offer the best services to its phone users.
