HarmonyOS PCs will support apps sideloading in future, says Huawei

Huawei HarmonyOS PCs will soon get apps sideloading support. The tech giant has recently confirmed new changes for its computer lineup. One of the changes is directly related to app installation on these devices with even better improvements.
Zhu Dongdong, the President of Huawei Device Consumer Business Tablet and PC line, says that HarmonyOS PCs will support sideloading applications in the future.
Sideloading or app sideloading refers to a process where users can install an application on their devices from sources other than the system or the official App Store. One can download apps from third-party stores, websites, and more.
Often, some apps are not available on the App Store associated with the device’s OS. At that time, sideloading can be helpful. It even lets you install a customized app version. But this trick sometimes proves to be a security risk for data.
Although the Huawei executive said HarmonyOS PCs will soon support app sideloading with improved security. Zhu notes that notebooks require a secure and safer mechanism. After improving the security, we can think of enabling app sideloading.

“We have to wait until computers are gradually improved before we can side-load apps. We can do it step by step. Who says we can’t side-load apps on computers? How can we not side-load apps if we can do development? It’s just that it’s not open yet. When the functions and security mechanisms are improved, and the number of users reaches a certain level, we will make things possible.”
The newly launched HarmonyOS PCs were facing issues with security management and product development. This is why the company didn’t allow sideloading for them. But things will turn better in the future.
Users will soon be able to install third-party apps on their HarmonyOS PCs without going through the app store.
