HarmonyOS 3.0 Roadmap

At Huawei Developer Conference 2021 (HDC 2021), the Chinese tech maker announced new software and technologies. These include HarmonyOS 3.0 Developer Preview and we’re here to talk about the latest HarmonyOS 3.0 development roadmap.

HarmonyOS 3.0 mainly includes four sub-solution modules – ArkUI 3.0 (Ark Development Framework), ArkCompiler 3.0 (Ark Compiler), DevEco Studio 3.0, and API 7.

Among these, ArkUI 3.0 represents the evolution of HarmonyOS’ UI (User Interface) development framework from an imperative UI framework with Java as the main programming language to a declarative UI framework with TypeScript (TS)/JavaScript (JS) as the main programming language.

On the other hand, ArkCompiler 3.0 plans native support for TS, with the goal of improving the execution performance of TS by a factor of two. API 7 also adds 6000+ TS/JS APIs. Subsequently, TS/JS language will become more and more important in HarmonyOS application development.

However, everyone is excited about the HarmonyOS 3.0 and we’re here to discuss the complete Roadmap including the Developer preview, beta testing, and the final release date of this new HarmonyOS version.

HarmonyOS 3.0 Roadmap

Understanding these three stages:

Developer Preview: Early preview version is available for developers only via the DevEco Development IDE. This version does not promise quality, does not promise API stability. You can try new features in advance, and you can fully feedback your questions or suggestions as a developer.

Beta: A testing phase that will gradually start to test in the public, however, the public testing will be an indicator towards a more stable version of the software. This phase will also keep the feedback open from a consumer perspective and help to further enhance the software with new features and reduce bugs with fixes.

Release: The final release of the software will rollout for the HarmonyOS 3 eligible devices. That version won’t change until the next major upgrade and the final work will also bring stability for the application in the ecosystem.
