Future Huawei phones to use mid-size display, except Mate 80 flagship

Huawei launched the Mate 70 series with extra-large display panels last year, and the company may stick to this strategy with the Mate 80 flagship phones as well. A leak suggests the OEM will use bigger screens for the next-gen Mate models.
BeijingDigitalMaster noted that Huawei will cut down the display sizes for its upcoming smartphones, but the Mate 80 series will be an exception. The flagship lineup will continue to feature large screen panels, just like its predecessor.
The tipster mentioned that the Mate 80 won’t introduce a mini 6.3-inch phone, as rumored before. An early leak suggested that the new-gen Mate models will break the tradition of large display panels this time with two small-screen models.
These two models were expected to bring a 6.3-inch and a 6.5-inch screen. It wouldn’t have been a bad idea, as small-screen phones bring portability and ease of use.
Other than the Mate 80 models, the rest of the upcoming Huawei phones could come with a medium-sized display, say between 6.5 and 6.7 inches, or may be smaller.

A smartphone’s display size is a significant segment. It impacts viewing content, interaction with apps, as well as how comfortably users can hold the device.
While large screens are perfect for multitasking and watching content more immersively, small screens promise compact and easier-to-operate facilities.
Huawei enlarged the display size for the Mate 70 Pro+ last year with a 6.9-inch screen. It featured an LTPO OLED screen with 2832 x 1316 pixels resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, 2500 nits peak brightness, and the 2nd-gen Kunlun Glass protection.
The 6.9-inch display claims 20 times increased drop resistance over the previous-gen models and clear visuals even in bright sunlight.
Mate 80 screen details are currently unknown as Huawei hasn’t shed light on this matter yet. But the lineup will likely go official later this year with powerful upgrades.
