Huawei is under investigation in Europe over bribery controversy, although the situation could worsen following the intervention of the FCC and Senate Intelligence in this case. The commission aims to phase out the Chinese firm from the continent.

Bloomberg reported that the FCC and Senate Intelligence Committee teamed up to convince Europe to cut ties with Huawei. Both committees are talking to European telecoms about stop doing business with the Chinese tech giant.

FCC Chairman Brendan Carr and Senator Tom Cotton are working together to cut Huawei in Europe. Both representatives raised concerns about Huawei and ZTE’s presence in Europe at the MWC 2025, considering them as unacceptable risks.

During MWC25, Brendan said:

“As the U.S. looks to collaborate with other countries and technology vendors, it is imperative that our network infrastructure remains secure.”

In a recent statement, Brendan Carr stated that Europe needs to ban foreign adversaries as they are a constant threat to it, especially the Chinese Communist Party.

He added that these companies are always exploring ways to breach our devices, networks, and technology ecosystem. Besides, Tom Cotton said on 14 March:

“Huawei exists to serve the interests of the Chinese Communists. Lawmakers around the world should think long and hard about doing business with a corrupt Chinese spy front.”

The latest move is a part of long-running sanctions that have instructed the U.S. allies to stop using Huawei 5G network tools. Meanwhile, those who have already installed it, need to replace it with other efficient alternatives.

However, not every European telecom seemed interested in removing the 5G Huawei equipment from their network core. Many telecoms believe that this process could take years and huge investments to replace superior items with inferior ones.

Huawei has declined the “security concerns” allegations many times. Yet, it is still chained in restrictions. Moreover, the bribery case is currently adding fuel to the fire.
