FCC investigating Huawei and its allies suspected of risk to US security

A new report says that the FCC (Federal Communications Commission) has started investigating Huawei and eight more Chinese telecom companies as they are suspected to be a risk to US security. The step came following the alleged bribery case.
The list of companies considered risky for the U.S. includes Huawei, ZTE, Hangzhou Hikvision, China Mobile, China Telecom, Hytera Communications, Dahua Technology, Pacifica Networks, and China Unicom. FCC called it a Covered List.
FCC believes that these Chinese companies including Huawei are a major threat to US security. Their special communications equipment and services pose a risk on the US users’ privacy and can spy confidential data of the country.
Brendan Carr – FCC Chairperson believes these firms continue to operate in the US as they think their designation won’t ban any specific operation of the companies.
FCC and the Senate Commission has recently suggesting Europe to cut ties with Huawei due to the alleged bribery case. Now it has played a new move against Chinese companies to allegedly stop their business in the U.S. over security concerns.
Brendan said the listed Chinese companies are breaching US restrictions by constantly operating their business in America on a private or unregulated basis.
“FCC will identify the scope of their ongoing activities and move quickly to close any loopholes that have permitted untrustworthy, foreign adversary state-backed actors to skirt our rules.” – said Brendan Carr.
The Committee is also interrogating ongoing US businesses that can help the country’s economy. After announcing the probe for nine Chinese companies, the FCC sent them a Letter of Inquiry and one subpoena.
