Huawei alleged bribery case took a new turn, as the European Parliament has charged five people. The Belgian prosecutor’s office said on Tuesday, it suspects a major involvement of a few individuals in the recently reported Huawei corruption case.

European Parliament recently connected Huawei with an alleged corruption. It suspended various representatives last week due to a bribery investigation.

Belgian prosecutors stated that dozens of police officers carried out raids in Belgium and Portugal. The raid aimed to investigate and find the real culprit behind this case.

The raid took place on Monday following the news of Huawei involvement in an alleged bribery controversy in the European Parliament, and charged some people. The Congress restricted the entry of many senators who belonged to Chinese firm.

While probing the place, the officers suspected five people linked to Huawei bribery matter in the European Parliament. Four were arrested and charged with active corruption in a criminal organization. The fifth is blamed for money laundering.

A Belgian magistrate kept four suspected people under pre-trial detention. Meanwhile, the fifth accused person was released under certain conditions.

The officers didn’t reveal the names of suspected people. As per prosecutors, Huawei has been allegedly involved in the bribery case since 2021 and had executed the corruption “very discreetly”. Although Huawei has denied of this accusation.

Huawei said:

“Huawei has a zero-tolerance policy towards corruption or other wrongdoing, and we are committed to complying with all applicable laws and regulations at all times.”

Under this case, the European Parliament has already suspended the access to premises for many representatives linked to the Huawei company as a precautionary measure.
