A tipster from Weibo revealed that Huawei is working on a new smartphone that supports Dual-SIM 5G with Dual Standby allowing users to access 5G networks on both SIM card slots at the same time. Additionally, the phone also has advance WiFi 6+ technology.

Last year, Huawei introduced its first 5G smartphone chipset, Balong 5000. This chip is capable of establishing both Standalone (SA) and Non-Standalone (NSA) network connections and introduced in several smartphones including the Huawei Mate 20 X 5G and Mate X.

The term dual-mode 5G means the support of SA and NSA, two different types of network standards. On the other hand, it doesn’t operate dual 5G SIM cards simultaneously. Instead, the current-gen 5G smartphone uses a 5G+4G dual Sim combination.

Later in 2019, Huawei embedded its 5G modem inside the Kirin chipset with the launch Kirin 990 processor but still, it doesn’t support dual SIM 5G. Even the 2020′ Huawei P40 series has no such SIM card mechanism.

Currently, there’s no exact date of launch for this phone available at the moment but Huawei is preparing to unveil its next Mate flagship, Huawei Mate 40 later this year.

This phone lineup will come with a 5nm Kirin 9000 processor that may possibly support this new 5G+5G SIM card combo. However, we’ll have to wait for a public announcement for further confirmation.
