Despite GMS absence, Huawei Mate XT could sell well globally: Analysts

GMS-less Huawei Mate XT tri-fold global debut surprised many consumers. After months of waiting, the company launched the world’s first triple-fold phone in the overseas market. Now, analysts have shared their views on the new device.
Mate XT is available in Malaysia and will soon step into other markets. But before that, some analysts predicted that the tri-fold may face hurdles in its global journey.
As per some tech analysts, the lack of Google Mobile Services (GMS) and a high price could make it difficult for Huawei Mate XT to survive in the global market.
Even though the tri-fold is full of significant features, the absence of GMS could become a barrier to device sales in Europe and North America. GMS-free phone means applications like Netflix and Gemini AI Assistant won’t be a part of it.
On the flip side, the device ($3660) costs 3 times more than the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 ($1200). These key points could restrict the Mate XT sales in Western markets.
IDC Analysts
However, IDC Analysts have a different perspective on the situation. The market research firm believes that despite the absence of GMS, Huawei Mate XT tri-fold could sell well in the global market. The OEM has other plans in this case.
IDC experts say that Huawei Mate XT will likely target high-spending early adopters instead of mainstream consumers. The former category consists of users who are excited about cutting-edge technologies and buy them right after launch.
That says, even if the company sells 500,000 units of Mate XT worldwide, it will earn $1.5 billion of revenue from the tri-fold product, occupying more market space.
At the same time, the Huawei Mate XT launch will help the company regain its place in the global smartphone market. Experts believe that the OEM eyes its expansion globally, especially in markets receptive to Chinese technology firms.
Huawei Mate XT comes on the global ground with EMUI 14.2 and Kirin 9010 5G chipset. How well it will do in the overseas market will be known in the time ahead.
