China is preparing to counterattack Taiwan’s “Huawei ban” move with a powerful action. A new report reveals that the country is planning to hit back at Taiwan to protect its economic growth and artificial intelligence tech development.

Today, one of the spokespersons for the Beijing Taiwan Affairs Office – Zhu Fenglian commented on Taiwan adding Huawei and SMIC on the export controls list alongside blacklisting 601 other entities. These firms belong to different countries.

She said that Taiwan is trying to work in favor of the United States and has imposed the same “unilateral restrictions” on Chinese companies as the US authorities.

But this time, China will not remain silent. Zhu said that China will take forceful action against Taiwan’s ‘Huawei ban” move. She further called Taiwan’s decision “disgusting” and said that the step reflects Lai Ching-te’s loyalty to the US.

“We will take forceful measures to resolutely safeguard the normal order of cross-strait economic and trade exchange,” said Zhu Fenglian.

Zhu also suggested that such moves will only destroy the bond between the countries. She said that these efforts won’t delay the progress of industrial upgrading on the mainland, but may hinder the competitiveness of the Taiwanese firms and the country’s economy.

Earlier this month, Taiwan banned Huawei and SMIC from accessing its technologies and AI chip equipment. Under these sanctions, Taiwanese companies will require a government approval before shipping tech products to blacklisted firms.

After the US, Taiwan imposed a ban on Huawei and SMIC as it believed that these firms were illegally accessing advanced chip technologies.

On the other hand, China is now taking a stand for its native companies that are getting phased out of the technological race due to a one-sided ban. What measures the Beijing authorities take on this matter is currently unclear.
