BMW China Group and Huawei are joining hands to launch HiCar-powered smart cars. After Audi, another foreign automobile producer is on the verge of helping the Chinese company to expand its driving solution business to a greater extent.

Also known as Bayerische Motoren Werke, BMW is a German multinational manufacturer of luxury smart cars and motorcycles. Now, it is teaming up with Huawei to build luxurious and super-advanced cars for its Chinese consumers.

The company announced the cooperation news via Weibo. The news reads that Huawei and BMW have tied up to use HiCar and other HarmonyOS 5.0 apps for cars.

“In China, we will develop a smart application ecosystem based on the native HarmonyOS for BMW users using Huawei devices and intelligent technologies.”

BMW aims to create a HarmonyOS NEXT-based smart app ecosystem for its next-gen cars. The company will merge its digital services like BMW digital key, My BMW app, as well as Huawei HiCar into HarmonyOS NEXT to bring its smart features to users.

As per details, apps like My BMW app and MINI app are already running on the native HarmonyOS ecosystem. Although the company wants to build a more intuitive and smarter connect system for its smart cars, with the help of Huawei solutions.

The automaker said that Huawei HiCar-based smart cars will debut in 2026. Mr. Xiang Gao – the President and CEO of BMW Group Greater China said:

“In China, nearly a quarter of My BMW app users have Huawei devices. Through deep integration with the HarmonyOS ecosystem, BWM will upgrade the in-vehicle apps and smart connectivity experience for HarmonyOS system users comprehensively, and enhance the smart driving pleasure in high-frequency usage scenarios.”
