Huawei is slowly gaining ground in the Chinese smartphone field while Apple is looking for new ways to boost iPhone sales in China. The US company is once again trying to chase customers with a “rare discount campaign” on its products.

Apple is giving tempting discounts on its newly launched iPhone 16 series in China. The company announced the news on its official Chinese website to begin the discount event from January 4 (today) to January 7 (Tuesday) for its new models.

The tech giant has also shelved iPads and MacBooks in this campaign. One can get up to 800 yuan ($109) discount on purchasing Apple products in the given period.

Speaking of the iPhone 16 series, the standard and iPhone 16 Plus is available with a price drop of 400 yuan ($54) whereas, the Pro models will have a discount of 500 yuan ($68). One can visit the official website or Apple stores for buying purposes.

Notably, Apple made this move right after Huawei slashed a price cut on its top-end lineups. Instead of 500 or 800 yuan, the OEM dropped the cost of the Pura 70 Ultra directly by 2000 yuan. Some models are even discounted to 3000 yuan.

It seems Apple copycatted Huawei to increase its iPhone sales in China. The company is already struggling with the fierce competition in the Chinese market. Besides, Mate XT and Mate 70 series ate most of Apple’s shares in the country.

On the flip side, the AI-less iPhone 16 doesn’t gain much attention in the Chinese market. Consumers believe that Apple lacks both technology and innovation.

A report claims that iPhone sales in China slumped 47% in November 2024, compared to 2023. The company has shipped only 3.04 million units which is the lowest figure since September 2023. The report implies that Huawei and other Chinese rivals are worsening the competition for Apple in its second-largest market.

Of course, Apple is doing great worldwide. The company’s stock has gained over 32% since the last year. Its market capitalization is valued at $3.686 trillion. But when it comes to China, Huawei is gaining momentum with a larger market share day by day.
