Apple and Huawei battling for the Chinese top smartphone crown. Both tech makers provide top-end devices to consumers. Although the absence of Apple Intelligence is majorly affecting the iPhone sales in China against Huawei 5G handsets.

The US tech giant launched the iPhone 16 series in China in September 2024. It showed tech-pack capabilities and a change in camera bump for the standard variant.

However, the flagship lineup didn’t impress Chinese consumers much. The foremost reason is the Mate XT. Huawei unveiled the world’s first tri-fold against iPhone 16. The foldable eventually shadowed the presence of Apple’s new models.

Another reason is the lack of AI. Yes, the company launched the iPhone 16 series in China without Apple Intelligence. Even though it promised to introduce AI capabilities in the country by 2025, the strategy doesn’t seem worth it.

The company delayed Apple Intelligence’s launch in China as it’s only available in English so far. More languages expected to support later this year.

Ming-Chi Kuo noted that iPhone users don’t seem interested in Apple AI Intelligence. It’s so because Apple rivals introduced a set of amazing AI tools that are far better than “Intelligence”. Also, most of the AI platforms are cloud-based while Apple Intelligence depends on hardware making.

“… there is no evidence of Apple Intelligence’s ability to benefit hardware replacement cycles or service business. As such, it should be cautious of potential downside risks created by earlier market over-optimism.” – says Kuo.

AI-less iPhones further made Chinese customers turn towards Huawei and other phone makers. In recent times, the Mate 70 series and Mate XT gained immense attention in the smartphone market for their innovative design and AI capabilities.

Mate 70 models bring a set of new AI features such as the AI file-sharing air gesture, Air Shoot, immersive raindrop themes, AI calls and messages, and more.

These features can easily attract consumers and bind them to explore the device for hours. Since tech vendors are constantly upgrading their AI plan with upcoming devices, Apple Intelligence launch won’t convince users much for an iPhone.

This is why, Apple Intelligence hype isn’t helping boost iPhone sales against Huawei and other brands’ devices. Let’s see how things proceed in the time ahead.
