Android 16’s nasty bug affecting Google Play System updates, fix coming soon

Android 16‘s phone users are quite annoyed these days as the update has a nasty bug that has affected the Google Play System updates. Every time a person tried to install a new firmware, the screen prompted “failed,” leading to utter frustration.

Devices running Android 16 and the QPR1 beta versions are facing very bad Google Play System errors. As soon as users hit the “update” button, it begins the installation. But it fails to complete this installation midway.

For starters, Google Play System updates are accessible through Settings > Security & Privacy > System & Updates > Google Play System update.

Since Android 16’s bug has been affecting Google Play System updates for weeks, many devices are still on the May 01, 2025, update patch while July is about to end.

On the other hand, many devices are working perfectly without any issues. The good news is that Google has identified the issue. It said to address it soon with a hotfix update. Pixel phone users can wait and don’t need to factory reset the device.

“If you are experiencing this (failed to update) message, there is no need to factory reset your device. We have identified a fix and are working to roll it out to users in an upcoming Google Play system update.”

Pixel device owners dealing with the annoying issue can wait for some more time to get rid of this problem permanently. Hereafter, they might directly get the July 2025 Google Play System updates with a bunch of new changes and improvements.
