Android 16 will modify call settings to safeguard you from scammers

Android 16 Beta 2 is out with several new features and certain modifications to phone call settings. The company has introduced a few changes that will not only enhance users’ calling experience but also protect them from fraudulent scammers.
Google has unveiled a new feature in Android 16 Beta 2 called “in-call anti-scammer protection.” From the name, the feature helps users shield their privacy and confidential data from scammers when they’re busy on an important phone call.
Phone scams have become a common problem for users these days. While AI has many benefits, people misuse it to scam others for their own interest. One such scam is to install malware on your phone and gain sensitive permission for it.
But Android 16 has got your back as it restricts you from enabling sensitive settings like sideloading permission when a phone call is active. As a result, it will interrupt the scammer’s flow into your device and alert you to some extent. It reads:
“Scammers often request this type of action during phone call conversations. So it’s blocked to protect you. If you are being guided to take this action by someone you don’t know, it might be a scam.”

In case the scammer’s app is already available in the Google Play Store, the Android 16 upgrade will block accessibility access for it during phone calls. Accessibility enables the app to perform operations by itself, such as reading the screen.
Anti-scammer tool for calls will eventually decrease the number of frauds taking place on phone calls. It will alert you and even block unwanted apps for your device.
The feature is live in Android 16 Beta 2 and may debut with the stable release in the time ahead. It is a great way to protect yourself and keep your data away from crooks.
