Android 16 may let you switch power button shortcut for camera and wallet

Google is making some dynamic changes to the ‘power button shortcut’ with the Android 16. The company is testing new features that will enable users to customize the double-tap power button gesture for the camera as well as Google Wallet apps.
Most Android phones support a double-tap gesture for the power button. It is a simple yet beneficial gesture to open the system camera application in no time.
But looks like Google is taking inspiration from the Apple iPhone that uses the double-tap power button gesture for the Wallet app. Now the company is preparing a new power button shortcut for the Google Wallet app with Android 16.
The Android 16 Beta 1 shows a new ‘double tap power button’ menu in the Settings menu > Gestures section. This particular change will enable users to easily switch the power button shortcut for the camera to the Wallet application.
Simply put, the power button shortcut will directly open the Google Wallet app instead of the camera. The good point, you can turn off this shortcut at any time.
Spotted first by Android Authority, the new feature is peeking from the latest Android 15 QPR2 Beta 3. The feature isn’t official at present. Hence, it’s unclear if it will go live with the next quarterly update for Android 15.
However, we can expect the new power button shortcut feature to go live with the Android 16 major upgrade. Apart from this gesture, the company could introduce more new changes for the upcoming version. Stay Tuned.
