Android 16 may enable users to personalize measurement system

Google is testing new features that can make its new OS more significant and useful for Pixel holders. Apart from UI and security additions, the company is seemingly adding a revamped measurement system in the Android 16 operating system.
Measurement system refers to the set of units used to define the layout as well as the size of UI elements on the screen. For instance, density-independent pixel (dp).
These units and measurements work as per the device’s system language. It’s an essential feature but remains limited to a specific dialect throughout the device.
Looks like Google will let users personalize their phone’s measurement system with Android 16. It will allow them to select the measurement system’s signs or language separately from the device’s default language. One can easily swap to metric, US imperial, UK imperial, and more without altering their phone’s language.
Mishaal Rahman pointed out that the US tech giant is generally opting for a separation of regional preferences and language settings. The analyst found the tweak in the Android 16 Beta 1 in the form of an independent regional preference section.

Users can visit Settings > System > Language & region. Here they can specify what measurement the apps should use. The new addition may further solve the issue of limited unit customization. It will show units based on the preferred region.
For instance, if your phone’s system language is English but you have selected Germany as your regional preference, then the weather applications will display wind speed in km/h and not in mph.
What more changes Android 16 will add to the “regional preference” section will be known later. Stay tuned.
