Android 16 could bring iOS-like security feature, named inactivity reboot

Android 16 is expected to take the security aspects of a phone to the next level with various features, and one such feature could be the inactivity reboot. The feature will automatically restart the device if finds it inactive for a time.
AndroidAuthority has recently performed a teardown of the Google Play Services (25.11.34 version) and found a string of the “inactivity reboot” feature.
The string further reveals the AAPM term, implying that the new feature will belong to the Android Advanced Protection mode. It is similar to the Apple security tool.
iPhone maker introduced an “Inactivity Reboot” feature with iOS 18. As the term suggests, it automatically restarts the device after 72 hours (3 days) of inactivity.
It’s a significant feature as, after the reboot, the device will only unlock via a passcode. In particular, Inactivity Reboot enhances the security of the device. Looks like Google is preparing a similar feature with the Android 16 software version.
The string reads:
“<string name= ‘aapm_inactivity_reboot_feature_summary”> Restart device if it remains locked for 3 days</string>
Another benefit of this feature is that even if your phone gets lost or stolen by thieves, they won’t be able to dive inside it. Thus, Inactivity Reboot will bring many security benefits to your smartphone with Android 16.
Google is also working on an Advanced Protection mode that will enable you to control your device’s access and certain necessary permissions.
