Android 16 Beta causes nasty Google Files crashing issues

Android 16 Beta is out with several new features but it has caused nasty Files issues. Some users have reported that the Google Files application crashes as soon as they enter the app or try to open a PDF file directly, ruining the user experience.
Google has recently rolled out the first beta of Android 16. While the update brought a smile to Pixel phone owners’ faces, it resulted in a nasty app crashing issue.
Users on Reddit and Google’s IssueTracker reported that Google Files crashes every time they try to open a PDF directly. It doesn’t allow the file to open or preview.
The issue is only showing up on devices running Android 16 DP1 or the new beta update. Meanwhile, Android 15 smartphones are working fine and don’t have any such problems with the Google Files application, at least for now.
Temporary fix?
A few users suggested that clearing the app’s cache and stored data could help in this situation. However, this solution will resolve the problem temporarily. After opting for this solution, the app will launch the PDF file but only for the first time.
The next time you try to open the PDF file in the Google Files (Android 16 beta), it will lead to the same crashing issues. Using the same solution frequently can worsen the scenario. It’s not the first time the Android 16 beta led to some problems. Earlier, it caused visual defects and issues with the navigation bar.
The good news is that Google knows the issue. One of the company’s engineers responded to the matter and assured to fix the problem as soon as possible.
“Thank you for reporting this issue. We have shared this with our product and engineering team and will update this issue with more information as it becomes available.”
