Android 16 Beta 2 has welcomed an old battery bug alongside multiple new features. The defect is related to one of the most significant features of the Pixel device. It is eventually harming the battery status and health of the smartphone.

Pixel phone users are reporting a strange battery bug with the Android 16 Beta 2. The issue is related to the 80% charging limit feature that prevents your device from overcharging. Looks like the new beta update has broken the capability.

80% charging limit is a useful tool for those who often forget to remove their phones from charging. The feature limits the charging of your phone to 80%. As your device’s battery hits the 80% level, it stops charging under this mode.

But the latest Android 16 beta has broken this feature. The feature now does not limit the charging to 80% but reaches 100%. A user said that his device overcharged twice even after enabling the 80% charging limit feature.

Another Pixel phone owner said:

“After the latest update of my Pixel 7 (to Android 16 beta 2), the charge level exceeds 80% despite the setting being. On the same screen at the bottom, it says – To prolong battery life, your smartphone will only charge up to 80% battery level.”

Many users confirmed the issue on the Reddit platform. The battery bug is mainly affecting Pixel 9 Pro XL, Pixel 8a, Pixel 6a, and Pixel 7 smartphones.

One can try letting the phone’s battery die completely and then charging it back as a temporary fix. The feature once appeared with Android 15 QPR2 Beta 3 and now returned with Android 16 Beta 2. Google may soon fix it via a new build rollout.
