Air China announced on Monday that it will further increase cooperation with Huawei in order to take the lead in the aviation industry by entering the native HarmonyOS app ecosystem.

The company will feed this application with features such as flight booking, current booking status, flight status, friendly bookings, and other important flight-related features. Air China also confirmed that this native HarmonyOS app will launch in December this year.

Since 2016, Huawei and Air China have been cooperating for mobile app development. The two companies have implemented several digital technologies in order to provide simple aviation services for passengers. Some of these integrations include a virtual store inside the app, as well as boarding passes, eID authentication, and HarmonyOS meta-services, formerly known as atomic services.

Last November, Huawei and Air China signed a MoU to carry out innovation and upgrades for the Air China HarmonyOS mobile app. Afterward, Air China agreed to promote HarmonyOS all across its services and further increase its core services towards mobile turning towards paperless process.

HarmonyOS next

In August, Huawei announced that the total number of HarmonyOS devices has exceeded 700 million and over 2.2 million developers joined the HarmonyOS ecosystem.

At HDC 2023, Huawei also launched HarmonyOS NEXT, which is a native HarmonyOS app-only operating system. This new software will promote the use of native HarmonyOS applications in the industry.

Announcements from a large player such as Air China’s launch of a dedicated HarmonyOS native app will help to build trust in Huawei’s ecosystem and development strength. Therefore, we may see more cooperation between Huawei and other Chinese industry partners to increase support for the native HarmonyOS app ecosystem.
