A new flagship Huawei Kirin chip can deliver 20% performance boost

Huawei seems to be working on a new flagship Kirin chip that will probably deliver 20% better performance than previous versions. Looks like the tech giant is making efforts to further improve its smartphone SoCs and make them more efficient.
A Weibo tipster recently said that the flagship Huawei Kirin 9030 chip will have a 20% increase in performance over the 9020. While the leak’s accuracy remains doubtful, the company could make certain enhancements to the next-gen chipset.
Kirin 9030 is rumored to power up the Huawei Mate 80 series. The chipset may launch by the end of this year with major upgrades over the Pura 80 series processors.
In recent times, the company has significantly optimized its Kirin chipsets. After the 9000s launched with the Mate 60 Pro in 2023, Huawei unveiled the Kirin 9010 with the Pura 70 models. Later, the 9020 debuted with the Mate 70 flagship.
Huawei suggests that the Kirin 9020 can offer 40% increased performance than the 9000s. If the upcoming chip can bring a 20% boost over the Mate 70 Pro+ chip, it may offer a 50-60% performance increase over the Kirin 9000s 5G SoC.

But that’s just a speculation raised among netizens after the latest leak. We may soon get more revelations on this subject in the coming days. Stay tuned.
Apart from making new chips, the company is also focusing on the chipset production line. It is seemingly taking steps towards the 5nm process and is expected to launch an advanced Kirin processor by the end of next year.
Following the US sanctions, the company went through many hurdles. The lack of EUV tools pushed it back by 1-2 generations from the foreign chipset technologies.
Supply chain remained another issue as it was unable to build accurate and improved chips for devices. However, it looks like Huawei is finally coming back to its original track.
A recent input shows that the Pura 80 series has already crossed 200,000 unit shipments in just half a month. Read the full details below.
